{"id":4101,"date":"2024-09-20T21:31:21","date_gmt":"2024-09-20T21:31:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.siuf.org\/?p=4101"},"modified":"2024-12-09T20:30:38","modified_gmt":"2024-12-09T20:30:38","slug":"saluki-womens-weekend-welcomes-more-than-200-to-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.siuf.org\/?p=4101","title":{"rendered":"Saluki Women\u2019s Weekend welcomes more than 200 to campus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/M0ip_Zfo7Ck?si=uv4KI1BZN1V1RaYW\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The third annual Saluki Women\u2019s Weekend brought together over 200 women, including students, alumnae, and professionals, to connect, share, and support one another.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The event, which was September 19 through September 21, was hosted by the SIU Foundation\u2019s Women\u2019s Leadership Council, a network of alumnae, parents, and friends who are committed to creating a culture of women-driven philanthropy at SIU and mentoring future generations of Salukis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">\u201cVery few of us ever got to where we are today without having some encouragement,\u201d said Dr. Sheryl Tucker, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. \u201cIt\u2019s important that we pass that on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Featuring dozens of panelists and speakers, the Saluki Women\u2019s Weekend put a spotlight on how women can achieve and support one another while reaching their goals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">\u201cThere are so many things we should take away from this,\u201d said Diane Compardo, president of the SIU Foundation Board of Directors and Saluki Woman of the Year award winner. \u201cI\u2019m going to encourage you to find that one thing that has been so meaningful for you and take it into your life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Three other women also received special recognition during the event:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p4\">Sherrica Hunt, Saluki Woman Trailblazer<\/li>\n<li class=\"p4\">Kirsten Barton, Saluki Woman Emerging Leader<\/li>\n<li class=\"p4\">Amber Koteras, Rising Star \u2013 Student Leadership Award<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p3\">The Women\u2019s Leadership Council also announced the first two recipients of the EmpowerHER Community Grant, which provided $500 awards to local, women-owned businesses.
