Logan and Rend Lake College.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vaughan, now a junior, chose SIU over Murray State, citing the coaching staff and the university\u2019s small-town feel as the deciding factors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy time at SIU has been great,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s like one big family. Everything from coaches to the support staff \u2026 it\u2019s been a great experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An exercise science major, Vaughan\u2019s academic goals have evolved, and she\u2019s now planning a future as a pharmacist.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cScholarships have helped me focus on my schoolwork and getting my practices in,\u201d she said. \u201cBeing a student-athlete is a major commitment, and time management is important if you\u2019re going to fit everything in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Beyond scholarships, donors are vital to every Saluki athletic program. Funds are used to support equipment and facility upgrades, travel costs, uniforms, and more.<\/p>\n<p>The impact donors have on individual students, the university, and thus, the entire region is obvious to Vaughan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really important to give back,\u201d she said. \u201cYou\u2019re helping someone who\u2019s in the same position you were in as a student.
